Pr. 3:7-8: “Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and depart from evil. It will be health to your flesh, and strength to your bones.”
I read a story this morning about a 12-year-old girl who stabbed her friend. She was following the orders of a mythological demon creature about which she’d learned on a website. He charges that one must kill to be a leader in his world. She stabbed her friend 19 times, but thankfully her friend is still alive.
This young girl now faces attempted murder charges, as an adult. Her entire life just changed. She reported that he was in her dreams and could read her mind. Doesn’t this sound just like the devil? He is a liar, a deceiver, a murderer, a destroyer of lives, a thief of hope and salvation.
We cannot count on our own wisdom to guide us! We must stay in the Word. We must nurture our relationship with the Lord, continue in prayer, and set our minds on things above.
Ro. 8:6: “For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.”
Our consciences have been seared by sin, our world is under the sway of the devil, the wisdom of the Lord is being replaced with filth and things of much less importance. We must persevere. We must continue in the Word. We must not let our guards down.
1 Peter 5:3 implores, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.”
We have a personal adversary that comes at us with our specific problems and weaknesses hoping we will become distracted, and will not be sober or vigilant. We must remain diligent in our spiritual disciplines to guard ourselves from attack.
Also, she had another friend that had read the same website and was encouraging and helping her in this attack. We have to watch whose counsel we are accepting. We need surround ourselves with others who believe in the Lord and in the power of His proven Word. When we separate ourselves from the flock, we become prey.
My heart and my prayers go out to all those who have been hurt by this devious attack the devil caused. God gives wisdom freely to all who ask, and fearing him is health to our flesh and strength to our bones. In light of the future we see before this young girl who was deceived, doesn’t that sound like a much better plan?
